Abstract
For in vitro regeneration and growth of bulblets from bulb scale segment culture of Lilium, several factors such as light, the levels of total inorganic salt, sucrose, nitrogen and growth retardants in MS medium were examined. The numbers of bulblet were increased when grown in 1.5 strength of MS salts supplemented with 3% sucrose under 16 hr light condition. Although high inorganic salts were favorable for bulblet induction, nitrogen requirement was relatively low. In contrast, the maximal bulblet growth was achieved when grown in 1/4 strength of MS salts with 9% sucrose under continuous dark. Most of growth retardants were not effective for bulblet growth, but the high concentration of B-9 strongly suppressed the formation of scaly leaves under light illumination and enhanced bulblet growth in ¢¥Casa Blanca¢¥.
